Garies Chong has more than 30 years experiences in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry. He has vast knowledges and experiences in IT network infrastructure, wireless, smart monitoring, security and data center including M&E services for the ICT & Data Center industries.

His industry credentials include Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD), Data Center Design Consultant (DCDC) & Registered Telecommunications Project Manager (RTPM) from Building Industry Consulting Service International, Inc (BICSI) and the Data Centre Practitioner (DCP) and Data Centre Specialist (DCS) in Design & Operations from DCPro Development. Garies is one of the judges for DataCloud Asia & Global Awards from BroadGroup. Garies also conducts training in design, engineering, installation & maintenance of structured cabling and data centres.

About Todd Taylor
Todd W. Taylor, RCDD, NTS, OSP, currently serves as BICSI President, overseeing the organization’s volunteer leadership and overall strategic plan, working with staff to ensure BICSI remains the preeminent resource for the Connected World. Todd has over 30 years of ICT experience across various industries including the design and installation of structured cabling systems to support low-voltage systems. The ICT experience resulted in ownership of a low-voltage system design-build company specializing in providing integration solutions.

The most recent 18 years have been focused in the healthcare industry, providing a full range of medical communications/technology planning, and design services for community hospitals, large academic healthcare entities, and related healthcare projects.

Todd’s active participation and leadership in industry professional organizations such as BICSI and TIA has created the opportunity for him to positively influence IT standards and the directions within the Medical Communications Industry.

Eugene Seah

Michael Vermeer is Engineering Strategy Manager at Panduit for their Enterprise and Industrial businesses. He has earned a Mechanical Engineering degree from Purdue University and an MBA from DePaul University. In his 15 years at Panduit he has taken various roles as engineer, inventor, product line manager, services business manager, and acquisition lead. He most enjoys learning from his customers’ perspective and helping to bring innovative solutions to common challenges, such as technologies that help transition serial networks to ethernet, and technologies that simplify physical layer network diagnostics.

Title: : Making sure your Digital Infrastructure is Power over Ethernet ready

Synopsis:

Is your digital infrastructure ready to support a plethora of PoE devices?  The new IEEE 802.3bt Power over Ethernet standard, currently being adopted by many device manufacturers, will open the door to many networked devices that will be able to draw power from your copper network cabling.  With multiple power supply types and classes of power supplies available, capable of delivering from 3.95W to 71.2 W to a device, over a 100m channel, are you sure your current infrastructure is up to the task? 

This presentation will look at what the new IEEE 802.3bt standard brings to the table as powering options for the network operator and what devices can be powered by PoE.  To ensure that PoE will work correctly, there are some extra testing options a network operator can request and a cabling installer can perform, during the installation phase of the cabling or during the retrofitting of new PoE devices.  The presentation will also address these new measurements and explain how they can be performed.  The presentation will conclude with methods a network operator can employ to determine if a PoE capable switch has enough capacity to a power a device that is about to be connected to a network.

Wayne Allen

As the Asia Pacific Regional Marketing Engineer for Fluke Networks, Wayne provides technical guidance to customers, distributors and Fluke Networks staff on how to correctly test installed structured cabling with Fluke Networks products. 

Wayne has worked in the telecommunications industry for over 40 years in various technical and engineering roles.  Wayne started his career working for Defence in military communications before taking up a support-engineering role with Philips Test and Measurement in Australia, which then became Fluke Australia.  Wayne has been associated with Fluke Networks for the past 32 years.

Wayne currently participates in Standards Australia committees such as CT-001-2 fibre optic sub-committee and CT-001-63 for copper cabling.

Gregory Ong

As a Chief Technical Officer of EMSGroup, Greg is the driving force behind the inception of the technology. Having worked as a CTO for several years in the competitive data center space in Singapore, Greg has developed an in-depth firsthand knowledge of the operational and engineering issues that data center and co-location providers face. This was also part of the reason for developing this patent pending technology to optimize the energy efficiency and reduce the overall total cost of ownership for datacenter and cloud providers. Greg’s comes from an Electrical engineering background and holds a Master’s degree in Business IT.  He spent the greater part of his 19year corporate career in regional IT leadership roles in Asia Pacific.

He is a Product Engineer & Architect with over 20 years of experience in Electronic Circuits & RF Systems. He has been involved in the Design & Development of Test & Measurement Solutions for the Cabling industry for the last 15 yrs.

He holds a B.Tech in Electrical & Electronics and a Masters in Electrical Engineering from National University of Singapore

Presentation Abstract: 

SPE is poised to enable a new class of low power devices that will facilitate networking and powering the billions of end point sensors forecasted by the year 2022. Learn about the latest Single Pair Ethernet standards being developed along with examples of how SPE Technology is being used in industrial and building automation applications.  We will take a closer look at the issues around proper deployment of SPE links and the testing needs.  We will review the current state of standardization on SPE field testing methodologies.  The challenges associated with testing up to 1km long links will be discussed.  Finally, a roadmap for the field tester availability with possible varieties will be outlined.
